The San Francisco International Aiport enacted a trained therapy animal program in 2013, and now they have added a pig to the mix.
Currently the Animal Assisted Therapy program (aka the ag Brigade) contains 300 animals, and are made up of a mix of dogs, cats, and rabbits. All of the animals are specifically chosen “for their temperament and airport suitability” by the San Francisco SPCA.
The new addition of LiLou the pig marks the first time that a pig has entered the therapy system for a United States airport. The pig’s role is to make people happy, so she is dressed up in a tutu and walked around the airport, saying her hellos.
Christopher Birch, the San Francisco International Airport director of guest experience released a statement about her addition.
“Since its launch in 2013, the SFO Wag Brigade has become a favorite amenity among travelers. With the addition of LiLou, we can look forward to more moments of surprise and delight for guests at our airport.”
