A hotel in Bangladesh seems to be holding the unofficial title for the world’s cheapest hotel. The Faridpur Hotel has rates as low as 50 Australian cents per night, but of course you do get what you pay for.
The hotel is actually made up of five boats with 48 different guest rooms. The beds do not have mattresses, but guests are given access to a locker to store their belongings as well as access to a toilet, a fan, and purified water.
For an upgrade guests can shell out $2 a night and get a private room instead of the communal bunking situation.
The hotel’s owner Muhammad Mustafa Miyan spoke out about the hotel and their guests.
“We have anywhere around 40 guests at a time in our hotel and they stay for as long as three months.”
The hotel is popular with workers who travel from Dhaka and want to stay close to Sadarghat, as well as the occasional traveler trying to save on overnight stays.
