A green card carrying woman has passed away after not being allowed back into the U.S. during Donald Trump’s travel ban.
The woman’s son Mike Hager explained that they were together in Iraq with his niece and nephews when his mother Naimma became sick. When they attempted to return home to their long-term home Michigan Mike was the only one allowed to do so.
His mother had to go to a local hospital in Iraq and died the next day, and he believes that the 75-year-old would have been okay if she had made it back.
“I was just shocked. I had to put my mom back on the wheelchair and take her back and call the ambulance and she was very very upset. She knew right there if we send her back to the hospital she’s going to pass away — she’s not going to make it. I really believe this in my heart: if they would have let us in, my mom — she would have made it and she would have been sitting right here next to me. She’s gone because of him.”
