Dubai already has many records under its belt, and now it can add the world’s largest theme park to its list of monumental attractions. The IMG Worlds of Adventure opened on August 31 and covers more than 1.5 million square feet of space. For perspective that’s about the size of 28 American football fields.
The theme park of course has a theme, which is equally split between characters from the Cartoon Network and Disney’s Marvel universe. There are 22 different rides, 25 stores, and 28 different bars and restaurants, all of which are indoors. The indoors concept is meant to be an appeal since the temperatures in Dubai can reach an average of 106 degrees fahrenheit in the summer…which is not ideal for ride hopping.
The park cost over $1 billion to complete and the city is hoping that it will a big draw to increase the amount of tourists to Dubai overall.
Dubai currently hosts around 14 million people each year, but is hoping to start attracting upwards of 20 million visitors each year by the year 2020. That is also the year that the World Expo will visit the city.
Some more theme parks will be opening in October of this year, when the Dubai Parks and Resorts opens with a Six Flags and a Legoland.
