Dubai has already built the world’s tallest tower once before, but now they’re planning to do it once again. Currently Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest tower, but when The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbor is completed it will take the title.
Once the tower is completed Dubai will then be home to the world’s two tallest towers, largest indoor theme park, largest indoor mall, largest aquarium, and the tallest hotel. They sure do like their records.
The new tallest tower began it’s climb in October and is set to be completed in 2020. It is being designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, who also designed the new transportation hub at the World Trade Center in New York City.
The new tower is planned to be a “notch taller” than the current tallest, which stands at 828 meters tall.
Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum released a statement about the new building.
“Years ago, we launched Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world. Today, we are celebrating the foundation of a new structure that represents another phase in our journey to be at the forefront of growth in various sectors.”
