Domino’s Japan is attempting to train reindeer to be able to deliver pizza for the winter months. The company has released a video showing how this might work.
The reindeer will have delivery boxes attached to their backs and then theoretically their progress would be monitored by smart phones. However, in the initial footage, it looks like the boxes are mostly falling off the reindeer’s backs and the employees are having a hard time controlling which direction the reindeer are walking.
The company has published a “pizza delivery action plan” about the different delivery methods that they’ve been working on all over the world, and in this case, is working with the Research Center of Hokkaido to ensure the reindeer stay safe throughout this process.
As far-fetched as the concept sounds, Domino’s has already successfully delivered pizzas via canoe and drone in other areas.
If all goes as planned the reindeer deliveries should begin on December 1.
