Delta Airlines is reportedly integrating facial recognition technology to more quickly confirm a match between people and their passport photos. Once the scan takes place people can drop their bags and go to the security line.
The service will be tested out this summer at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The airline is putting in four bag drop machines, one of which will have the face recognition software.
Gareth Joyce, Delta’s senior vice president of airport customer service and cargo, released a statement about the move.
“We expect this investment and new process to save customers time. And, since customers can operate the biometric-based bag drop machine independently, we see a future where Delta agents will be freed up to seek out travelers and deliver more proactive and thoughtful customer service.”
