Chile is getting five new national parks thanks to a massive land donation. The land donation is coming from Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, the former Patagonia CEO and leader of the Tompkins Conservation.
Kristine is donating one million acres of land to Chile’s park system, and in return, the government will donate ten million acres of federally-owned land for its national parklands.
That amount of land is a massive donation and is actually three times the size of Yosemite and Yellowstone put together.
Within the space, they will be creating five new national parks, which will include the Pumalín National Park, the Melimoyu National Park, and the Patagonia National Park.
