TSA is rolling out some new security screening procedures, and if they end up getting large-scale clearance we might have to start removing our snacks from our bags at security. The concept is similar to the laptop removal procedure.
The idea sounds like it would slow down the whole security process, since it’s one more thing that passengers have to deal with while they’re removing their shoes and jackets to get through the line. But the concept should actually speed things up.
One report states that “Everyday items can appear similar to explosives on an X-ray machine — which slows down lines because officers must manually inspect a large number of bags.”
Makes sense. Being able to more clearly see what they’re looking at will reduce the need for TSA to open bags for manual inspections. Airports that will soon be used to test the procedure include Los Angeles International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.
