The Federal Aviation Administration is warning airlines that a style of seats called “Slim” or “Slimplus” from Zodiac Seats California LLC might not be as safe as they previously thought.
The FAA is suggesting that in the event of a survivable plane crash there isn’t enough support to keep the necks of passengers safe.
The seats are currently on planes like the Boeing 717-200 and MD-90-30 aircraft, Bombardier’s CRJ700, CRJ900 and Q400, and Embraer’s E170 and E190 planes. Removing the seats would cost the airlines a collective $890,970, which of course they aren’t happy about.
The initial order stated that “the intent of this (airworthiness directive) is to provide a safe outcome for passengers during a survivable crash by preventing serious injuries.”
An official order will be published in the Federal Register.
