The legalization of marijuana in Colorado has reportedly been negatively affecting restaurants in the state. While initially people thought the opposite would be true, it now seems that the marijuana industry is taking workers from the restaurant business.
One business owner named Bryan Dayton explained the impact to Bloomberg.
“Our workforce is being drained by the pot industry. There’s a very small work pool as it is. Enter the weed business, which pays $22 an hour with full benefits. You can come work in a kitchen for us for eight hours a day, in a hot kitchen. It’s a stressful life. Or you can go sort weed in a climate-controlled greenhouse. It’s a pretty obvious choice.”
Other reports state that alcohol purchases have dropped four percent since people coming in high don’t necessarily want a drink with their meal. However, the travel industry has increased due to the recent interested in the law changes.
