Some workers in Jamaica accidentally painted over a commissioned Banksy piece at the five-star Geejam Hotel. The artwork was worth an estimated $5 million and had been there for ten years. It’s thought the hotel owner and Banksy went to school together.
Thinking the artwork was regular old graffiti the workers painted over it with white paint. The hotel has looked into getting the new paint stripped off the pieces, which would cost $150,000 and offer no guarantee that the pieces would look exactly the same.
The hotel is a favorite of celebs like Tom Cruise, Katy Perry, Sharon Stone, and of course Banksy. It also has a recording studio that’s been used to record albums for the Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, and Bjork.
