The newest Trump Tower in Vancouver is not getting a friendly welcome. The hotel opened Tuesday, but recently it’s been the site of protests and complaints from nearby residents as well as councilmen and the mayor of the city.
Vancouver’s councilman Kerry Jang said that the Trump Tower a “beacon of racism…intolerance, sexism and bullying. It represents a brand that’s over the top, glitz and glamor. It’s not our thing.”
Mayor Gregor Robertson wants the developer of the hotel to change the name and avoid the issues surrounding it.
The Trump Tower is the second tallest tower in the city. Hotels room will cost a minimum of $228 per night, and one-bedroom condos start at around $1 million.
