The O’Hare International Airport in Chicago is introducing automated security lanes that could make the screening process 30 percent faster. They have already rolled out the new process at terminal three, and they are planning to open a TSA Precheck security checkpoint and three automated screening lanes in terminal one.
The automated lanes can handle tasks such as pushing the empty property bins back to the front of the line, and quickly diverting the bags that need to undergo a further inspection.
United and American airlines have both increased the size of their security bins, and American has switched to electronic bag tags and automated rollers so that the bags will go through the x-ray machine without having to be pushed up the rollers to land on the conveyor belt.
These changes should allow for a faster experience for travelers navigating the system, and it’s no coincidence that they have rolled out the changes in time for the holiday travel rush.
