A Qantas flight took an agonizing 8 hour trip to nowhere on Monday, April 4, 2016. Flight QF-9 departed from Melbourne en route to Dubai, which is normally a 14 hour flight. However, two hours into the journey the captain discovered some “engineering issues” that caused him to turn the plane around. The 410 passengers aboard were in the skies for about 8 hours before finally landing in Sydney, not the departure airport of Melbourne. It took several hours for the plane to secure a landing spot in Sydney, so they were left circling the skies for what seemed like an eternity before landing nowhere near their intended destination. The captain decided not to sound the alarms for an emergency landing as the problem was merely “a slight vibration issue in one of the engines.” By the time the passengers boarded another plane to Dubai, they had added an extra 20 hours to their itinerary. Check out this quick video below to see what went down.
