More and more nations around the world are finally respecting that same-sex couples should enjoy the rights and protections that hetero relationships take for granted. It is now officially legal for committed gay and lesbian partners to wed in 21 progressive countries. Several others are on the cusp of passing similar laws, so expect that number to increase in the coming years. It’s still only a fraction of the world, but it’s clear there’s a powerful shift towards tolerance and acceptance on this issue. It wasn’t long ago that interracial unions were taboo, but most of us have moved beyond that antiquated thinking. The same should hold true to same-sex marriages.
For now, these are the enlightened nations that celebrate love and have marriage equality on the books.
