Video: 11 Eternal Flames that Won’t Be Snuffed

July 10, 2015 by Catherine Forth

Some spots on the planet are smoking hot – quite literally. These places are on fire, and the flames just won’t quit. Sometimes eternal flames are intentionally ignited for religious purposes (Jewish sanctuary lamps), sporting glory (Olympic flame), or memorial respect (John R. Kennedy Memorial). But there are some natural blazes out there which have been burning for thousands of years. Sparks may have been set by lightening bolts, volcanic explosions or spontaneous combustion.
