The World Tourism Organization has announced a new sustainable tourism campaign. The campaign is entitled “Travel.Enjoy.Respect.” and aims to bring awareness to sustainable tourism.
Tips for focusing on sustainable tourism include buying locally-made products and goods, reducing water and energy consumption while traveling, as well as learning some words in the local native tongue.
The UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai spoke out in a statement about the move.
“Whenever you travel, wherever you travel, remember to: respect nature, respect culture, and respect your host. You can be the change you want to see in the world. You can be an ambassador for a better future. TRAVEL, ENJOY, AND RESPECT.”
Many cities around the world have been making moves to protect their cities from tourism. Barcelona is one recent to do so, after banning Segways and electric scooters in its Old City area.
