Social media clearly has it’s marketing powers, but a recent survey done by marketing firms AMP and Blitz seemed to find that word of mouth still has more influence, especially where millennials are concerned.
For millennials word of mouth was the top spot, followed by Facebook or Instagram, then websites, then YouTube.
For non millennials inspiration was more likely to come from a website before social media, but Facebook and Instagram were not far behind. The other categories of inspiration were smaller but still exist and are: Magazines (8% millennials, 7% non-millennials), TV shows and movies (8% millennials, 9% non-millennials), Twitter (7% millennials, 6% non-millennials), Snapchat (5% millennials, 3% non-millennials), and then there was an other category (2% millennials, 6% non-millennials.)
Around 30 percent of all the people said they used a travel agent the last time they booked a trip for fun, and 56 percent said that they had used one in the past. The reasons listed for why they did use agents some of the time was to save money, save time, and to get expert advice.
These responses came from 385 different people who fit into the researcher’s qualifications and had taken at least one trip for leisure within the past year.
