It is possible to travel the world on a budget when you’re hopping on discount airfares, and it doesn’t hurt when someone else lays out the route for you. The website AirFareSpot.com has done just this, offering an around the world trip starting and ending in New York with six stops for just over $1,000.
To get the deals the trip has a specific order to follow, which starts January 28 with the first flight from New York to Stockholm. From there it will go to Thailand, Australia via Kuala Lumpur, then to Honolulu, then Portland Oregon, and then back to New York.
A little random, and some of the stops are more layovers than anything else, but the total cost of flights come out to $1,161 which is how much a single stateside flight can cost from coast to coast.
The website of course also calls out all kinds of other cheap flights if an around the world trip isn’t on the agenda. The key is that the flights are off season and might be random days, but saving thousands of bucks can make it seem worthwhile to miss a couple days of work here and there. Other deals include things like $382 round-trip tickets from Philadelphia to Dublin, and roundtrip flights under $500 to Bangkok from Los Angeles or San Francisco.
