There is apparently one town that comes out on top when it comes to stargazing at the night sky. Gerlach, Nevada has been identified as the U.S. town with the smallest amount of light pollution, making the sky that much more visible at night.
This information came straight from one of Nasa’s satellites which circles around the earth 14 times a day. The satellite determined that the darkest mass of the country is in the northwest area of Nevada, thanks to its mostly desert landscape.
The town of Gerlach is only home to 200 people, plus a restaurant, motel, and a bar. There are signs upon entering the town that read “Center of the Known Universe” and “Population Wanted.”
