TripAdvisor has officially been given the green light to be allowed to book trips to Cuba. On Thursday the company confirmed that it had received a license from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which provides the permission to sell their travel-related services to people heading to Cuba.
The license allows the company to book both U.S. and non-U.S. located travelers for services such as booking flights, cultural tours, attractions, and short-term rentals. They are also allowed to put up advertisements to encourage people to do so.
TripAdvisor president and CEO Stephen Kaufer, released a statement about the step forward.
“Cuba continues to be one of the only countries in the world where the United States imposes significant travel restrictions. We applaud President Obama’s policies to ease these restrictions and build relations with our island neighbor just 90 miles south of Florida.
“TripAdvisor looks forward to helping travelers all over the world discover Cuba’s vibrant history, people and culture as we begin the important work to make these trips possible.”
TripAdvisor’s senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary Seth Kalvert, added that the news was “exciting and historic.”
