South America has launched its first ever luxury sleeper train called the Belmond Andean Explorer. As the name implies the train will head through the Andes in Peru. The train route also happens to be one of the highest train routes around, coming in at 16,000 feet.
For the passenger, that height means awesome views of the landscape. The train only holds 48 people at a time and has an extreme focus on luxury. There’s a library, a lounge car with a piano, and a boutique. The restaurant offers authentic Peruvian cuisine such as cheesy corn and alpaca tortellini.
Inge Moore, the interior designer of the train spoke out about the design choices.
“I wanted to connect the interior with the location and make it a holistic journey of discovery. Colors and textures are inspired by Peruvian nature — soft ivory Alpaca tones, Andean slate greys, woven textures, and handicrafts.”
Guests can expect to be treated like VIP’s and have interesting options for viewing the landscape such as a private tour of the floating islands on Lake Titicaca.
