A British travel company called TUI has a new plan for determining people’s dream travel destinations. They have put into effect a program called Destination U that literally scans the faces of users to determine what makes them happy.
While in action, cameras point at 149 different points on a user’s face as they watch a two-minute video of people on vacation. The video goes through different scenes and activities, and the assumption is that people’s subtle changes in reaction will able to determine what location might be the most appealing to them.
If they continue the expansion of the program it might be available over webcam at some point. Expedia already did something similar last year when they offered facial scans to determine people’s ideal activities while vacationing in Hawaii.
