There’s one Swiss town that won’t be making it on any Instagram feeds anytime soon. The town of Bergün has asked that people stop taking photos because “Photographs of our picturesque landscape, shared on social media, can make others unhappy because they themselves cannot be here.”
Even taking a photo of that sign can result in a $5 fine. However, the entire concept is actually a marketing campaign that’s attempting to draw more attention from travelers. Often towns encourage tourists to take photos by introducing new opps, but this town is going for the opposite tactic.
The town even went so far as to post a video from the mayor asking that NASA also blur their town on satellite imagery for the same reasons. Whatever they’re doing, they’re certainly calling attention to themselves.
