Some of the state parks are easier to get to than others, and then some of them just happen to be more popular based on the sights and activities they provide. Here are the top three most visited state parks in the U.S.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
the Great Smoky Mountains National Park draws over ten million visitors each year, which is remarkably over twice as much as the second most popular park. Most of the visitors take in the view from the nearby highway, while others choose to hike in through North Carolina or Tennessee.
The Grand Canyon
In 2015 the Grand Canyon saw 5.5 million visitors, many of which hike down into the canyon itself. The Gran Canyon is so big that it’s only possible to see pieces of it as a time. In certain areas it is a mile deep and 18 miles wide.
Rocky Mountain National Park
The third most visited national park is the Rocky Mountains. The park contains 150 different lakes and 450 miles of streams, so there quite a lot of views to take in, as well as a variety of ecosystems.
