France is currently offering oysters by way of a vending machine. The machine makes it possible to get oysters 24 hours a day on the island of Île de Ré. Perfect for those late night seafood cravings?
The concept came from oyster farmers Brigitte and Tony Berthelot. Apparently, they had a high demand for the meal after closing hours and decided to do something about it. The concept sounds slightly dangerous, but they do in fact restock the supply to make sure those babies are fresh.
The cost for the oysters is about $8 for a dozen, which is the same price that they sell them for in their oyster shop by day. People who have the idea to order from the machine in advance can also add on items such as sea asparagus and pate. Early orders provide a code that is entered in the vending machine, at which point the food is dispensed.
