Right now is the best time in more than a decade to get your family or your friends into the car and onto the open road. Gas prices, which are hovering around $2.16 a gallon on average across the country, are at their lowest price since the end of July 2004.
Of course, there’s more reason to get out onto the road than just the gas prices (though the two are linked). Essentially, most experts are speculating that the price of gas will hit their lowest point (and begin to rebound thereafter) at some point during this year’s election cycle. In other words, by November, we could be seeing increased prices at the pump. While that might be great news for the country’s flagging oil and gas industry (which could use the bump), it will likely end the short period of time in which the American road trip tradition has been revived.
We all knew the lower gas prices would likely be short-lived. It’s lasted a bit longer than anyone anticipated (long enough to nearly destroy some countries’ economies), but it looks as though the pump will become a less friendly place once again in the next few months.
