Six different German caves have now become World Heritage sites thanks to the certification by UNESCO. The caves were discovered to have artifacts from the Ice Age, such as carved figurines and musical instruments.
At 33,000 and 43,000 years old, those items are some of the oldest figurative art that has ever been found. One of those items happened to be the oldest found figurine of a human. Most of the others were of animals. A few of the tools found in the cave were over 60,000 years old.
Some of the artifacts that were found in the caves are on display at museums in Germany, such as the Stone Age exhibition of the Landesmuseum Württemberg in Stuttgart. That exhibit is a permanent one.
