Okay, we’re all adults, here; we know the reputation that Japan has for some of its more eclectic tastes (yes, “used” panty vending machines do exist). That being said, the country may actually be more hospitable to young women than their international reputation may suggest. In fact, there are tons of great reasons for a young woman to travel to Japan.
First and foremost, the Japanese people are extremely kind and courteous, especially to travelers. If you’re lost or confused, or even in the mood for a little bit of friendly conversation, more often than not, the Japanese people will be willing to lend a hand. What’s more, as a whole, the people are extremely respectful and in no way condescending.
From a cultural standpoint, solitude is no big deal. You won’t get weird looks for eating alone or checking out the tourist sights in peace. Even better, for those female travelers looking for a little more security, female-only accommodations are readily available.
The land of the Rising Sun may not be on every traveler’s bucket list, but it is a fascinating place to discover. The country is courteous, beautiful and home to a culture that’s unique to planet Earth. If you’re in the position to check it out — even solo — you absolutely should.
