Car rental agencies are now starting to consider the future of self-driving vehicles. Avis Budget Group Inc. Has reportedly agreed to store and maintain Alphabet Inc.’s autonomous technology division of Chrysler minivans.
Hertz Global Holdings Inc. and Apple Inc. reportedly have signed a similar deal. What this means is that the car rental agencies are less likely to be negatively influenced by the rise of self-driving cars as that happens to occur.
Michael Millman, the founder of Millman Research in Short Hills, New Jersey spoke out about the state of the industry.
“Some people thought that they would be victims, but they’re the only companies that can handle fleets on a large scale. Autonomous cars and ride-sharing are not the end of the rental business but could end up being a benefit. It could be a source of profit for them.”
