So maybe the self-driving busses need a few tweaks before they take over the world. One took its first trip in Las Vegas this week and actually had a minor crash with a truck. Luckily no one got hurt in the accident and there wasn’t any serious damage to the bus.
In other good news, the shuttle responded exactly how it was programmed to in the event the something like this would happen. Apparently, the delivery truck grazed the shuttle bus and the sensors of the bus quickly recognized what was happening and stopped the bus to avoid further damage.
Las Vegas city officials released a statement explaining that “had the truck had the same sensing equipment that the shuttle has the accident would have been avoided.”
The shuttle bus, which is named Arma, holds 12 people at a time. It does not have a traditional steering wheel or brakes inside. The shuttle will continue its 12 month test period and is expected back on the road.
