Saudi Arabia has plans to become a major tourist destination. Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz who is the president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage spoke out about the plans this week at a press conference.
They are currently working with a strategy called Vision 2030 which involves making the area more tourist-friendly following a post-oil economy. One of the plans that they currently have in place is to open up an entertainment city that would be similar in size to Las Vegas. They also want to open a Six Flags.
Another aspect of the project is developing The Red Sea Project. The Red Sea Project is a lagoon that touches 50 islands that could be further developed to draw in tourists to the area.
Saudi Arabia has also recently announced new freedoms for women, such as the ability to get driver’s licenses and travel on their own without a make companion.
