San Francisco has been named the top fine dining city in the United States. The 2018 San Francisco Michelin Guide has named seven different three-star restaurants: Benu, The French Laundry, Manresa, Quince, The Restaurant at Meadowood, Saison, and Coi.
Overall San Francisco has 55 different restaurants that have been awarded Michelin stars, with 77 total stars. Having seven different three-star Michelin restaurants gives San Francisco two up on New York City, which was the previous top dog in the Michelin food world.
Part of the reason this occured is that one of New York’s restaurants got demoted. The formerly three-star restaurant Jean-Georges was demoted this year, as was the restaurant Daniel a few years back. New York City’s five three-star restaurants are currently: Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa, and Per Se.
The other reason San Francisco rose up this year was because of the rise of the restaurant Coi. Other two-star establishments in San Francisco currently include: Acquerello, Atelier, Crenn, Baume, Californios, Commis, Lazy Bear, and Single Thread.
