The country of Russia is considering making some pretty big changes when it comes to cigarettes. The government is reportedly thinking about banning them completely to people who are born after the year 2014.
The ban would include refusal to sell going into place in 2033. Others suggest that this would just increase the buying of cigarettes on the black market, but the Health Ministry thinks the attempt is a worthy cause since 300,000 to 400,000 people die from smoking in Russia each year.
Marina Gambaryan, an expert who works at the Health Ministry spoke out about the idea.
“By 2033, the ban on the sale of tobacco products to people born after 2014 will not seem an extreme measure, but an entirely logical development of events.”
