Sir Richard Branson is saving one of the remaining Pearl Harbor boats by sinking it and turning it into a dive location. Sinking the boat will actually preserve it better than it’s been treated by the air.
The boat is known as the Kodiak Queen (or YO-44), and it will be decked out with an art installation for divers to enjoy. The installation will include a giant Kraken sculpture that will wrap its arms around the boat.
Richard released a statement about the project.
“This project provides an exciting opportunity to capture people’s attention and then to refocus it on important issues facing our oceans, for example, the importance of addressing global warming to protect our coral reefs and the need to rehabilitate vulnerable marine species such as severely overfished grouper populations.”
