On Sunday Qatar Airways flew the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight from Doha, Qatar, to Auckland, New Zealand, which took 16 hours and 23-minutes to complete. Not surprisingly, the cabin crew has to stay pretty busy on such a long trip.
According to the New Zealand Herald, the 15 person cabin crew serves 259 seats on the flight. With repeat service, they state that the cabin crew “will serve 1100 cups of tea and coffee, 2,000 cold drinks and 1,036 meals.” That comes out to about 12 drinks per person per flight.
The airline will be making its return trip soon which is expected to be an even longer flight due to headwinds, and should take somewhere around 17 hours and 30 minutes. Sometimes these lengthy flights do not turn out to be financially sustainable, so time will tell if the route is here to stay.
