Qantas airlines has launched its first direct flight from Australia to Europe, which will connect Perth and London.
Currently, the flight takes 24 hours and “has always been necessary to stop halfway in either Asia or the Middle East.” The updated direct flight will be cut down as much as possible to 17 hours.
The Qantas CEO Alan Joyce called the news a “game-changing route with a game-changing aircraft.”
He added:
“When Qantas created the Kangaroo Route to London in 1947, it took four days and nine stops. Now it will take just 17 hours from Perth non-stop. Australians have never had a direct link to Europe before, so the opportunities this opens up are huge.”
The new flights don’t roll out until March 2018, at which point they will be available daily. The 787-9 Dreamliners will hold 236 passengers. Ticket prices have yet to be announced.
