Germany’s second-largest airline Airberlin is closing and will stop sending out flights on October 28. However, the subsidiaries Niki and LG Walter will remain open as Airberlin closes.
The airline reportedly went through a bankruptcy and is trying to find new work for its 8,600 employees. The carrier was loaned $176 million from the German government to keep in service while they were going through negotiations, but it now seems as though the boost did not help.
There was a statement released following the bankruptcy filing about quickly things were going south. Some people have reported confusion over flight bookings since they weren’t quickly made aware that the airline would soon no longer exist.
“Airberlin’s business has deteriorated at an unprecedented rate, preventing it from overcoming significant challenges.”
