Now might be a good time to plan a trip to the Black Sea area. The Black Sea has suddenly turned a blue-green turquoise hue thanks to a phytoplankton bloom. The bloom occurs yearly but this is the brightest that it has showed up since 2012.
The color change is actually a good thing. Ahmet Cemal Saydam, the professor of environmental science at Hacettepe University explained.
“This has nothing to do with pollution. Across the Black Sea there is an explosion of Emiliania huxleyi. This is a blessing for the Black Sea.”
