North Carolina has a 60-foot natural water slide called Sliding Rock that plunges into an eight-foot deep pool at the bottom. The area is open to visitors all the time, but it’s considered safest to go in the warmer months of the year.
The waterslide is so popular in fact that they actually have a lifeguard on duty starting in May during the hours of 10 AM to 6 PM. During those hours there is also a $2 entrance fee.
The water is only 50 to 60 degrees year round, but there are also two observation decks for anyone who wants to safely sit on the sidelines and just take in the people brave enough to slide.
It’s suggested that anyone taking the plunge wear some old shorts and sneakers since this is a natural formation after all and some snags are always possible.
