Nickelodeon had previously announced their plans to build an underwater resort in the Philippines, but this plan has now been scrapped. The Palawan island resort was expected to be open by 2020.
It was going to be a pretty unique place, will both restaurants and lounges as much as 20 feet below sea level. It was to be a “multi-island experience” including “hidden lagoons, hot springs, and an animal reserve.”
Apparently, the idea was not favored by environmentalists and a petition to stop the production fo the resort got over 260,000 signatures.
Viacom released a statement about the change, saying that “[Viacom] and Nickelodeon will no longer be involved with this proposed development.”
