Mt. Everest will soon be equipped with free wi-fi which is as much a safety move for its visitors as anything else. When the wi-fi connection is up at the mountain’s basecamp it will become the highest wi-fi spot ever.
The area is already internet equipped, but thanks to Nepal’s telecom service it will now be free. Digambar Jha, the chairman of the state-run Nepal Telecommunications Authority spoke out about how they will provide the service using cold-resistant cables.
“We have already discussed the project with the International Telecommunication Union, and they are also positive about providing such facilities.”
The goal is to provide internet access for when emergency situations occur, as they tend to do on occasion since Mt. Everest can be a pretty dangerous place.
