Mexico‘s President Enrique Pena Nieto announced the country’s plans to open a massive theme park based on Mayan culture. The park will be named Amikoo, (friend in Mayan), and could be opened by November 2018.
The park will be located on the Riveria Maya and be designed around Mayan characters and mythology. In addition to rides, it will include a hotel, wave pool, a museum, and virtual tours of the area.
Enrique’s announcement made it clear that they were in direct competition with the theme parks in the United States.
“We’re going to compete with other [parks] up there [in the United States], and I’m sure ours will be better.”
The design is expected to cost $840 million and could draw 4.5 million guests each year.
