Mexico City has plans to streamline its customs process at Benito Juarez International Airport. The airport is reportedly considering a second terminal that will skip the red or green light process they current use.
Instead, they would use a mobile x-ray device to check bags as they travel between airports. They would also get rid of the declaration customs forms that people currently have to fill out before landing.
The idea to make things a bit faster comes from the country’s Tax Administration Service. Mexico saw a 4.1 percent increase in tourist and business travelers in 2016, which means that speeding up the customs process is helpful on all ends.
After the first phase of this program, they will extend it to terminal one and then other airports as well.
