On Wednesday Donald Trump celebrated the opening of his Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. There were many people in attendance at the event, but one who was not was the city’s Mayor Muriel Bowser. Sources close to the mayor said that making an appearance “may be too political this close to the election.”
Mayor Bowser is a democrat who is supporting Hillary Clinton’s run for the presidency, and has been openly critical about Trump’s run over the past year, sometimes calling him out on Twitter.
The 263-room hotel which opened to the public last month, seems to be off to a slow start as far as business goes. The room prices have been dropped significantly, and some of the deluxe rooms have actually been going for half of their normal rate.
The hotel is certainly not without its share of controversy having the Trump name attached to it. Since its opening last month, the hotel has seen both acts of vandalism and protests. Travel agents and event planners have admitted that some of their clients have requested that they don’t get booked at Trump-owned properties.
