Machu Picchu has introduced a new set of rules for tourists to follow starting on July 1. The rules are in place as an effort to protect the place as much as possible in the years to come.
Tourists are no longer allowed to stay all day but must instead either buy tickets for a morning or afternoon visit. Tourists now must be with an official Machu Picchu guide or licensed tourist guide at all times. Each guide may only bring in 16 people at a time.
Items that have been added to the prohibited list include: bags larger than 16 inches, all food and drinks, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, illegal substances, umbrellas, tripods, selfie sticks, musical instruments, high heels, children’s strollers, and walking sticks.
Tourists are prohibited from leaning on walls, taking anything, removing their clothing, or making loud noises.
