Lyft has announced that they will begin using self-driving cars in San Francisco. They will be teaming up with the start-up Drive.ai to bring the autonomous cars to the road, with the help of the start-up’s self-driving software.
When the first self-driving cars hit the road, riders will be able to ride free in exchange for taking part in the pilot program. The cars will be driving themselves but there will be a person in the front just in case something goes wrong.
During the pilot program, they’ll be able to figure out what changes they need to make with the software as well as see how people feel about riding in the autonomous cars.
In July Lyft announced that they would be launching a new self-driving division in Palo Alto. There they will be creating a variety of test spots and labs for their engineers.
