The Alabama-based Unclaimed Baggage Center runs by buying unclaimed luggage and then reselling the contents in a thrift store type concept. It’s hard to imagine that anyone fails to return to find their lost baggage, but one percent of the time this is the case.
After the 90-day grace period when bags aren’t claimed they are shipped out the business who takes things from there. They dry clean clothes, wipe electronics for data, etc.
Some of the odd items they’ve found have included moose antlers, a suit of armor, and a live rattlesnake. But overall their mission is a good one, “to ‘reclaim for good’ what was once unclaimed.”
The company has donated hundreds of thousands of glasses to the Lions Club Sight First program, and they donate a majority of the luggage to foster children.
