The first low-cost Asian airline has been approved for flights to the United States. The Malaysian airline AirAsia X recently got approval from the Federal Aviation Authority and will soon start putting flight schedules into place.
The AirAsia X CEO Kamarudin Meranun released a statement about the move.
“Our expansion up until now has concentrated on Asia, Australasia and the Middle East, and we are excited about our first foray into an entirely new market as we look beyond Asia Pacific.”
The CAPA Center for Aviation thinks that the first U.S. routes for AirAsia X’s will be from Japan to Hawaii, as well as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.
The airline is also considering picking back up routes to and from London which they gave up in 2012 over high taxes. They also might add flights to Frankfurt, Germany.
